This module is pretty simple. Here's a quick rundown:
Some courses require you to register for an admissions test in addition to applying through UCAS.
Some courses also require you to submit additional work.
Aptitude tests are an important factor when applying to top UK universities; for some courses you may need a certain amount of points in order to proceed to interview. You have to sign up in advance, with test centres available in many different UK cities, and foreign countries. The next module will focus on the specific. Right now you need to know how to register!
Some university courses (mostly at Oxbridge) also require you to submit written work. This is a piece of writing you've done at school, marked by your teachers - your school will co-ordinate this with your school. These have to be original work, either originally written in English or translated. This may also be used as a talking point in your interviews.
You can check if you need to submit written work on your course's page. More information about written work for Oxford/Cambridge can be found below:
http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/applying-to-oxford/guide/written-work
https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/applying/admission-assessments/submitted-work
The deadline for arrival of written work is 10th November for Oxford. In Cambridge this varies depending on college. Work must be submitted through your teacher, so it's best to speak to them about it!
Admissions tests also require prior registration which follows different deadlines to the UCAS application deadline (and the early deadline for Oxbridge applications). These are not just for Oxbridge, for example many universities use the LNAT, BMAT, UKCAT and the MAT.You can find out about what admissions test you need to sit by going on your course page. Most admissions tests require registration by the 15th October 2019 and are sat on the 30th October, but it's important that you double-check this information!
BMAT
The BMAT takes place on the 30th October 2019 and you need to register by 1st October 2019. If you miss this deadline, you can still register before the 15th October but will have to pay a late registration fee. Many admissions tests, including this one are handled by Cambridge Admissions Testing (this includes admissions tests exclusive to Oxford). Check with your school's Exams Officer if your school offers the test.
If your school is a test centre you will need to register for the test there. If not, you will have to register at another school/centre. You can find out where your nearest test centre is at https://www.admissionstesting.org/find-a-centre/. Remember, you must register by 15th October.
STEP
The STEP is an exam taken alongside your A-Levels in June, so you don't need to worry about registering for it yet! Your university will let you know what you have to do if you receive an offer with a STEP grade requirement.
LNAT
Registering for the LNAT is done through the test's website and managed by Pearson. You will have to find a Pearson centre to sit the test at. If you are applying to Oxford, you must register and book your slot by 5th October 2019 and sit it by 20th October 2019. If you're applying for Law at another university, you must register and book your slot by 15th January 2020 and sit it by 20th January 2020. More information is available here: https://lnat.ac.uk/registration/dates-and-deadlines/
UCAT
Registering for the UCAT (formerly UKCAT) is done through the website. You must register your account and book the test by 18th September at 5PM. This is done on this website:https://www.ucat.ac.uk/ucat/registration-booking/
If your test is not on the list, you can find out about it on the internet. In some cases you will not need to register and it'll be handled by your university, and on other cases you will still need to register. Don't put this off until it's too late!
